Barnesville School Magazine To the Barnesville School community: I am writing to share with you that I will be stepping down as Head of School at Barnes- ville next year, at the close of June 2015. is will mark my ninth year serving as Head of School at Barnesville, and I believe the time is right for the School to select its new leader, and for me to begin the next stage of my professional career in educational leadership. By the close of the 2014-2015 school year, Barnesville will have completed its Action Plan for AIMS reaccreditation, as well as its Green School reaccreditation. is will allow the School's next leader to take on the charge of fulfilling these plans in the years to come. I have had the opportunity reflect on my years at Barnesville, beginning with my very first in- troduction to the school by Search Committee Chair Julie Klingenstein, and my first meeting with former Head of School Jaralyn Hough. I am proud to have been able to take part in the School's growth since Jeri's retirement in 2006. Over the past years, the School has made sig- nificant green developments, building new outdoor spaces for learning, growing, and playing. On a technological front, we have made sweeping upgrades to the tools available to our stu- dents and faculty. We have introduced an Early Childhood program in order to provide a high- quality education to three- and four- year- old students. We have developed key partnerships with the scientific, artistic, and agricultural community, all benefiting our students' education. e School maintains healthy financial reserves, and fundraising is very robust, with many members of the community contributing greatly to support the institution. In short, Barnes- ville School is in a strong position as it moves forward. I thank you for the opportunity to be a part of Barnesville's history, and I will always look back upon these days with great joy. You have allowed me to grow as an educational leader, and I thank our Board of Trustees (and the four Board Chairs whom I have served) for their tireless dedication to Barnesville. On a personal note, I thank you for welcoming me, my wife Janine, and our three sons ( James´11, Brian´12, and Jack´21) into this exceptional community of teachers and learners. e bonds we have developed with the students, teachers, administra- tors, staff, parents, trustees, and local upcounty residents will not be forgotten. Sincerely, John Huber Head of School From the Head of School 2
