Summer 2014 From the Editor 1 A nother school year is complete, and there is another class to welcome into Barnesville's alumni community. Since our winter issue reached you, the Barnesville students have been very busy! In December, our lower school, under the direction of music teacher, Nancy Taylor, presented the an- nual Holiday Show. From preschool to fourth grade, each class performed songs to get Barnesville in the holiday spirit. In January, it was the middle school's turn to perform. Led by music teacher, Sue Hughson, the annual January Jubilee was a spectacular event! It was great to see so many Barnesville alumni in attendance for the alumni gathering beforehand! In February, Barnesville held its second annual Battle of the Bands. ree bands entered the competi- tion and it was the Damascus Destroyers that went home the winner. In March, our seventh and eighth graders presented their "Peeps" projects. e winners included: Joy Reeves' Mt. Olympeep for Originality of Concept; Anna Morrison's e Rockpeep Center for Craftsman- ship/Execution; and Ben Gherman's Peepsop's Fables for best Write-up. In April, Barnesville unveiled its new mascot: the Barnesville Bear. e Student Council explained the choice: "Bears come in many different colors, shapes and sizes: brown, white, black, koala, polar, grizzly, panda… is diversity mirrors the diversity of the Barnesville students." In May, our lower school held their traditional May Day celebration. e performance included a May Pole, Hobby Horse and Teaser, Green Man, Chimney Sweeps, and Morris Dancing. (See page 12) Also in May, our middle school presented the spring musical, e Sound of Music. Both performances were a great success! (See page 13) Lastly, in June we witnessed our 15 eighth graders become the newest class of Barnesville alumni at their graduation. Congratulations to them on this wonderful accomplishment!
