Fifth grade is a transition from arithmetic—basic skills in addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division— to the study of mathematics. You will explore number theory, the nature of mathematics, and problem-solving. Sixth grade pre-algebra introduces basic algebraic concepts, building upon previously mastered content. e course includes limited topics in geometry and statistics that also involve arithmetic review as well as new skills and concepts needed for algebra. Algebra I is generally taught over the two years of seventh and eighth grades. Our program assumes mastery of the facts and skills of arithmetic and emphasizes the development of abstract concepts, logical reasoning, and problem solving. We work to solidify understanding of concepts by modeling and investigating real-world problems, with an emphasis on process and understanding rather than memorization.
