LETTER FROM THE CHAIR OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES DEAR BARNESVILLE COMMUNITY, e 2018 school year ended with my oldest daughter Jessica grad- uating 8th grade. Jessica was a "lifer" at Barnesville, starting in pre-k 10 years earlier. Her sister Jenna, also a lifer, is graduating in 2019, our last year at Barnesville. I could spend a few pages elaborating on what a wonderful experience e Barnesville School has been for our family. I will be forever grateful for the role that the Barnesville Experience has played in the social and academic development of our children. Who they've become as young ladies entering high school astounds me every day, and I can't thank enough the faculty and staff for being such an important part of our lives. As a Board of Trustees, we are charged with the strategic outlook for the school and supporting the Head of School in delivering on our mission of Joy, Support, and Excellence. In 2019. We celebrate our 50th year. It is not lost on our board the responsibility of ensuring that the next 50 years at Barnesville will be as joyful and successful as the last 50. e outlook for the school is bright. e Board and the school administration are aligned on delivering on our mission in every way possible. And, if you were at our annu- al Gala or golf tournament, you would know as I do that our Barnesville community stands as strong as ever. We are the Barnesville School of Arts & Sciences, and this is also something we do not take lightly. One could view Arts & Sciences as being orthogonal, but we do not. e "&" is important. e "&" not only reflects a curriculum balanced between creative arts and hard sciences, but it also reflects a commingling of disciplines that challenges our students to solve problems harmoniously, in a way that is both pleasing and functional. e & represents who we are as a school and how we are preparing our students for the future. Many times I've been asked why I send my children to Barnesville, especially given the good reputation of the public schools in this area. I always give the same answer. Each time I interacted with a young teenager in the upper Mont- gomery County who was exceptionally polite, articulate, and mature for their age I asked them where they went to school. More times than not, the answer was "e Barnesville School". I do not know where life will take my children, what educational choices and career choices they will make.
