The Barnesville School Letter from the Chair of the Board Letter from the Chair of the Board of Trustees Christopher Marett 2011-2012 Board Chair Dear Barnesville School Community, After having reviewed this 2011/12 Annual Report, I sit humbly to write you this note of gratitude for the extraordinary acts of generosity so many of you have exhibited over the past year. At its core, any discussion of generosity has to start with a big debt of gratitude to our inspiring staff and faculty. Their utterly selfless generosity in the classroom every day is the reason we all love our school, and is at the core of "The Barnesville Way." But scratch a little deeper below the surface and you quickly realize that generosity of all types flows in all directions through the halls of our school each and every day. From the generous gift of time donated by so many of you in both large and small ways to the most active BPC Committee Chair running major community events like the Back-to-School Picnic or Family Fun Night with aplomb to the occasional library or bake sale volunteer, the spirit of Barnesville volunteerism is a model and inspiration to our children, and an important part of our culture. Then there's the generous spirit that permeates our culture. The countless helping hands extended for your fellow community members…from the small cards and gifts delivered with care on special occasions and the regular helping hands we lend to each other's children to the more significant acts of thoughtfulness during times of more serious need, our children are fortunate to have such role models. And just as significant is the financial generosity shown by each and every one of you listed in this Annual Report of Gifts. The simple fact is tuition only covers a portion of the operating costs of our wonderful school. As a Board of Trustees, we are charged with creating a fiscal foundation for the school that allows for the resources to continue our top-notch programs, while also building toward our strategic vision of Barnesville as a world-class school for the arts & sciences. Put plainly, your generous philanthropic giving throughout this past year—from our Annual Fund campaign last fall to our very successful Gala in the Spring, to the countless other large and small acts of financial generosity throughout the year—is an important reason for the healthy fiscal position the School finds itself in now, as well as for a bright future of growing in our mission of joy, support and excellence. To close, on behalf of the entire Board of Trustees, please accept my deepest gratitude for all your many forms of generosity. Thanks to all your efforts and caring, I am truly confident that The Barnesville School will continue to thrive and grow in 2012/13, and for many years to come. Sincerely, Chris Marett Board Chair 1
