CHRIS SEMANCIK (CLASS OF 2015) has been awarded two summer internships with the Army-sponsored summer STEM enrich- ment program known as Gains in the Educa- tion of Mathematics and Science (GEMS). Chris's first week as an intern was spent at the U.S. Army Medical Research and Materi- al Command (USAMRMC) at Walter Reed Army Institute of Research in Silver Spring, where he participated in an intermediate level Biomedical program. Chris's second week of internship was spent with the intermediate GEMS pro- gram at Fort Detrick. is year's program at USAMRMC Fort Detrick is a joint effort between many different research, development and operational or- ganizations, including the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases, U.S. Army Center for Environmental Health Research, Military Infectious Diseases Research Program, the Armed Forces Institute of Regener- ative Medicine, the Telemedicine and Advanced Technology Research Center, and various operational organizations at Fort Detrick.
