WELCOME SUSANNE JOHNSON, INTERIM HEAD OF SCHOOL! Susanne Johnson needed no introduction as she transitioned from Barnesville School of Arts & Sciences Director of Institutional Advancement to Interim Head of School on July 1st. Her appoint- ment allowed for strategic collab- oration with outgoing Head of School, John Huber, over the past several months. " The School's mission of joy, support, and excellence will be my leadership compass," said Susanne. "Our mission guides not only what happens in our classrooms, but who we are as a community. What we call, 'e Barnesville Way' instructs my decision-making and inspires our exceptional faculty and staff as we advance our arts and sciences vision." Susanne explained what it means to be a "school of arts & sciences" as follows: "Our teachers collabo- rate with the intention of finding new and meaningful ways to help students make connections across history and science, math and art, politics and literature, technology and the environment, etc. Stu- dents explore how different sub- jects relate to one another, making connections that spark inquiry and deepen understanding. is cross-curricular approach fosters skills that help students approach issues with a critical mind." Barnesville's Board of Trustees conducted significant due diligence to define the qualities and expertise needed to lead the School forward, and voted unanimously in Septem- ber 2014 to promote Susanne from within the administration. A trust- ed leader at the School with fifteen years of sales and marketing man- agement experience, Susanne has a proven track record of developing and directing top-performing teams. Johnson earned a Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) degree from Babson College's Franklin W. Olin Graduate School of Business and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Dartmouth College. At Barnesville, Susanne pro- gressed from Director of Admis- sions to Director of Institutional Advancement, where she has led successful Annual Fund cam- paigns, exceeding fundraising goals and increasing participation rates each year. Prior to her employment at Barnesville, Johnson served as a leader in nearly every volunteer capacity at the School, including Board of Trustees Secretary, An- nual Fund Chair, Gala Chair, and Chair of the Jaralyn Hough Fund Campaign that raised $500,000. She has served as President of LAND (Landscape and Nature Discoveries), which supports environmental education, since its inception in 2006. She previously served as Treasurer of Clarksburg Chamber of Commerce Board. "The School's mission of joy, support, and excellence will be my leadership compass," said Susanne. "Our mis- sion guides not only what happens in our classrooms, but who we are as a community. What we call, 'The Barnesville Way' instructs my deci- sion-making and inspires our excep- tional faculty and staff as we ad- vance our arts and sciences vision."
