Annual Report 2013–2014 Georgeann Gude Wood Library and Media Center $100,000 Renovation Ribbon Cutting Ceremony Celebrating a Major Gift 4 On Wednesday, September 17, 2014, the Barnesville School of Arts & Sciences host- ed a ribbon cutting ceremony for the newly renovated Georgeann Gude Wood Library and Media Center. Brooks Wood, whose philanthropy allowed for renovations to the Library and Media Center, was pleased to honor the memory of his late wife, Georgeann Gude Wood, former parent, Board Member, volunteer-extraordinaire, and longtime friend of the School, who passed away on June 16, 2000, after a long battle with cancer. Brooks Wood has been a longtime benefactor of the Barnesville Library, having established the Georgeann Gude Wood Library Endowment Fund, a permanently endowed fund, in 2000 to commemorate Georgeann's life, her many gifts of time and talent as a Barnesville parent and Board member, and her particular love of the Barnesville School Library. Brooks and his son Crosby, class of 1981, contribute to the Fund annually. Brooks and Crosby also make dona- tions to help build the library collection. Brooks' most recent donation allowed for a complete renovation, with a new circulation desk, state-of-the-art lighting, iPad work stations, and new carpeting. e ribbon cutting was attended by many of Georgeann and Brooks' family and friends, former Trustees and past parents. It was a joyful celebration, bringing together the Barnesville "Old Guard" with current Trustees and faculty in Georgeann's memory. Head of School John Huber was enthusiastic about the recent improvements to a much-loved space within the school. "We have always been so fortunate to have an outstanding library for our students and faculty—the library has been the heart of our institution for many years. is generous gift has provided us with both a warm environment that celebrates reading, as well as the flexibility to best utilize new media technology. We are incredibly grateful!" Barnesville School Librarian Cindy Barr was very pleased with the ribbon cutting event. "e dedication of the new library media center was one of those memorable Barnesville moments that was wrapped with the warmth of renewed friendship, an appreciation of the Wood family generosity and an eagerness for the future of our students at Barnes- ville."
